DJ Vannessa and the sound to expect

It’s a one-name bill for now. DJ Vannessa, an Afro House devotee who’s been building a name through her own sets and channels, fronts the entire night. The event blurb promises deep grooves, soulful melodies and hypnotic percussion, the rolling, drum-led sound the genre does best.

The room shapes the experience as much as the music. Defected Studio is a compact space rather than a festival ground, so Amahle is pitched as an intimate celebration of rhythm and connection. Anyone who caught Jullian Gomes at Defected Studios earlier this year will know how close the booth sits to the dance floor here.

No supporting acts are confirmed yet. With the event still three weeks out and promotion in its early stages, lineup additions could still land, so keep an eye on DJ Vannessa’s pages.

Tickets and getting there

Tickets cost a flat R250 with no tiers or add-ons showing on the listing. Sales are open and there’s no sign of a sell-out.

Defected Studio sits on Paarden Eiland, the industrial strip between the CBD and Milnerton along Marine Drive. It’s a quick ride-hailing trip from the city centre. Parking arrangements and any age limit haven’t been published, so double-check the ticket page before you head out.

A crowded Halloween weekend to plan around

Amahle lands on the Friday night before Halloween and Cape Town’s calendar is stacked that weekend. The Langa Food Fashion Music Fest runs on the 31st, the Somnyama Show brings its Halloween edition to Woodstock, and Cabo Beach Club hosts its own Halloween party across the same days. If you’re building a full weekend, pace your late nights.

Interest is building quietly. Just over 50 people had flagged themselves as interested on the event listing in early October, which fits the low-key, word-of-mouth feel of the promotion so far. And the city’s Afro house calendar doesn’t stop there, with The Groove Room at Cabo Beach following in December.

For Afro House heads in Cape Town who prefer a tight room to a massive stage, this is the Friday-night pick for that weekend. The one thing to do next: grab your R250 ticket on Webtickets and watch for lineup news as the date approaches.
