The Lineup and the B2B Sets
The full bill runs deep. Simmy, Thandi Draai, Crazy White Boy, Samurai, Privacii, Jazzworx and Thukuthela round out a lineup that stretches from soulful house to percussion-heavy Afrotech, all under this year’s banner, The Evolution of Afrohouse. Fashion and dance culture sit at the centre of the day too, so expect more than back-to-back music.
The back-to-back sets are the main drawcard. Da Capo and Enoo Napa pairing up puts two of the sharpest Afro-house selectors in the country on one deck run, while Oscar Mbo B2B Ciza blends deep, soulful grooves with a newer contemporary edge. Zakes Bantwini, whose Mayonie Productions founded the event, keeps the brief simple: “Mayonie Open Air is about creating a space where the music speaks for itself. We want people to come together, discover something new, celebrate the artists they love and experience the energy of Afro-house in its many forms.”
The Johannesburg date follows the Durban edition at Chris Saunders Park in August, which Bantwini announced himself earlier this year:
That KZN edition set the tone, and demand in Joburg has followed fast. Early bird GA at R250 and early bird VIP at R850 both sold out well ahead of the date, and fans have been calling for specific B2B pairings since the earlier editions, so the Da Capo and Enoo Napa booking lands on fertile ground.

Constitution Hill sits at 11 Kotze Street in Braamfontein, with parking available at the venue. Doors open at midday and the music runs until 22:00. No under 18s get in, and the prohibited list covers firearms and weapons, umbrellas, camping chairs, cooler boxes, illegal substances and own alcohol. Right of admission is reserved.
If you’re mapping out the city’s Afro-house run, this one slots into a busy stretch. Jullian Gomes plays Mr Vinyl in Johannesburg this October and Aero Manyelo lands at Bad Manors the same month, building nicely toward late November.
Anyone who caught the Durban edition, or anyone who simply wants a full day of Afro-house at one of the country’s most historic sites, should plan around this Sunday. The next move is grabbing a Phase 1 ticket on Howler before Phase 2 pricing kicks in.
