About this event

Ultra South Africa returns for its 12th edition in 2027: Cape Town on Friday 30 April at The Ostrich, Johannesburg on Saturday 1 May at the Nasrec Expo Centre. Both nights run 14:00 to 02:00, with tickets sold through Howler and the first release already gone.

The deadline that matters right now: pre-registration for the cheapest tickets closes tonight, Monday 26 October, at 23:00 SAST. General sales open Tuesday at 10:00.

  • Dates: Friday 30 April 2027 (Cape Town) and Saturday 1 May 2027 (Johannesburg), 14:00 to 02:00 SAST
  • Venue Cape Town: The Ostrich, Van Schoorsdrif Road, Philadelphia off the N7
  • Venue Johannesburg: Nasrec Expo Centre, cnr Rand Show and Nasrec Roads
  • Lineup: not announced yet, first names expected after general sales open
  • Tickets: Afterglow general access sold out at R795 (Cape Town) and R895 (Johannesburg), next tiers on sale 27 October at 10:00 SAST

Tickets: registration closes tonight

The opening tier, which the festival calls Afterglow, went on sale before a single artist was announced and moved fast, with R795 clearing Cape Town and R895 clearing Johannesburg. Both are now marked sold out on Howler. Early tiers have sold out quickly at past editions too, which is why the organizer spent the past week pushing fans to register.

And pricing for the remaining tiers isn’t out yet. For scale, first-tier Cape Town VIP cost R1,500 at the 2026 edition, so expect general access to climb from the Afterglow baseline as stock moves.

  • Cape Town tickets: Howler Cape Town
  • Johannesburg tickets: Howler Johannesburg
  • Platform: Howler, the official seller, with tickets stored in the Howler app
  • Sold out: Afterglow general access, R795 Cape Town and R895 Johannesburg
  • Rules: 18 and over only, cashless site, no door prices advertised

Lineup and what to expect

No names are locked in for 2027. The organizer has been polling fans on who they want to see, and the replies lean towards b2b sets and house and techno acts alongside the usual big-room headliners. Lineup drops typically follow the general on-sale, so the first announcements should land in the coming weeks.

The 2026 edition gives a sense of the calibre. John Summit, DJ Snake, Axwell, Afrojack b2b R3HAB, Apashe, Dennis Ferrer and Shimza played across the two nights. That’s last year’s bill, not a 2027 promise, but it shows the level the festival books at.

On the ground, expect the standard Ultra setup: a main stage with full-scale production plus RESISTANCE, the underground-focused stage carrying the techno and house side. The spread runs from big-room EDM through Afro-house and amapiano, with South African talent threaded through both lineups every year.

Venues, times and getting there

The Ostrich is a farm venue on Van Schoorsdrif Road in Philadelphia, just off the N7 north of Cape Town. It’s the same ground that hosts KUNYE’s New Year’s Day party, so regulars know the drive and the parking routine. Nasrec sits at the corner of Rand Show and Nasrec Roads in Johannesburg’s south-west, close to Soweto, and nights like Piano People at Old Park Station keep the local Afro-house circuit warm until May.

The Johannesburg date lands on Workers’ Day, a public holiday, which softens the 2am finish. Both events are strictly no under 18s, fully cashless, standing room only, and run rain or shine. Load your ticket into the Howler app before you leave home, because entry runs off it.

If big-stage electronic music is your scene, both cities now have their first major 2027 date locked in. Register at ultrasouthafrica.com before 23:00 tonight for the cheapest access, or be on the Howler pages at 10:00 tomorrow when general sales open.
