What to Expect at the In-Store
Mr Vinyl is a record shop first, so this won’t look like a club gig. Expect a small room, turntables and a crowd of collectors. When Gomes did a signing session at the same store in September 2024, he played through most of his own releases on the decks and spent two hours signing records and meeting fans. Collectors came from across greater Johannesburg, and one fan turned up with six of his own Gomes records, including the St Germain remixes.
The timing makes sense too. This year marks ten years of Late Dreamer, with a pink anniversary edition of the album available through the store on SAMP Records. Most of his catalogue is sold out on vinyl worldwide, so the realistic picks on the day are Bruno & The Birds and whatever copies of Love Me, his Atjazz collaboration remixed by Kaytronik, are still around.
For anyone new to the name, Gomes has been a fixture of South African deep house since his first gig in 2003. He went through the Red Bull Music Academy in London in 2010, built The Gift The Curse with Atjazz, a record that pulled in Osunlade and Robert Owens, and picked up a Metro FM award early on for Love Song 28.
Tickets, Times and Getting There
There’s no ticket page for the 11 October date on the usual platforms, and nothing on the store’s site as of publication. Every previous Mr Vinyl session with Gomes, TKZee and Msaki ran as a free walk-in event, so that’s the likely format unless the store announces otherwise. Keep an eye on the Mr Vinyl site and his X account in the week before.
- Ticket price: TBA, no paid entry listed for this date
- Where to buy: TBA, no ticketing link published yet
- Format: past in-store sessions at the store were free and walk-in
The store sits at Shop G14D, 44 Stanley Avenue in Milpark, inside the 44 Stanley complex with its own parking. Sunday trading typically runs 09:00 to 14:00, which makes the 13:00 start a tight window. Arrive close to opening if you want first crack at the vinyl crates.
If you’re building a bigger October plan, the same stretch also has OOR Outdoor Experience IV at Yard 512 in Midrand, and further ahead Best of Both Worlds at Heartfelt Arena closes out the year in Pretoria. Gomes himself plays 012 Central in Pretoria on 31 October, Katy’s Palace Bar in Sandton on 7 November, then Good Omen, And Club and Bad Manors in Johannesburg through November and early December.
Deep house fans and vinyl collectors rarely get this kind of small-room setting with an artist of his standing. Save the date for Sunday 11 October and get to 44 Stanley early.
