Holly Rey’s home town welcomes her back from SAMA win in style

The 25th South Africa Music Awards-SAMA took centre stage at Sun City this past weekend and a number of upcoming musicians and artists reached new highs.

Afro-electro house artist Holly Rey was given an unforgettable welcome-home celebration at King Shaka International Airport after she won the desirable record of the year award at the Samas on Saturday 1 June 2019.

The musician took the spotlight at the Sun City awards ceremony when she walked away with the record of the year award.

Shortly after winning the award, many of Holly Rey’s close friends said that they were always confident she would be able to pull off an “upset”. They pointed to the success her song “Deeper” had on radio stations around South Africa as proof of its demand.

Holly celebrated the win in style, without much time to rest she partied the night away till the early hours of Sunday morning. By Sunday afternoon, she arrived back in Durban only to be greeted by many of her fans and friends who came to congratulate her on the win.

Celebrations poured in on a memorable night with heart pounding performances from DJ Tira, Mobi Dixon, Dladla Mshunqisi, Sho Madjozi and many more.

Holly Rey is an Afro-electro house artist and songwriter from Durban, South Africa.

Holly signed a deal with Sony ATV at the age of 13. This was followed by the release of her debut album ‘Strawberry Skies’ in 2010.

She has performed at Shisa Nyama venues and big events such as the 2015 Cape Town Jazz Festival, 2014 and 2016 Umgababa New Year’s Picnic, 2016 Durban Jazz Festival, Essence Festival and the 2016 Shisanyama Festival. She has released a string of songs chief among them ‘Inhliziyo Yami’, which was produced and co-written by Mondli Ngcobo. This was followed by a three-track EP and a single called ‘Bang Bang’. She also has an album called ‘Vanilla House’.

Holly has collaborated with artists such as DreamTeam, Professor, Zakes Bantwini and EmEx. She has also worked with artists from Mozambique, Senegal, Congo, and Nigeria.
