South Africa – DJ Sbu was trending hard on Twitter for most of the weekend and it had nothing to do with house music.
Instead, friends and fans were flooding his mentions, with adverts for their businesses. Basically, his page became the community classified ads on Twitter.
DJ Sbu took to social media just hours after MultiChoice sparked fears of mass retrenchment at the company when it announced a business “realignment” which would affect nearly 2,000 jobs in its call centres and walk-in outlets.
In a series of posts, he encouraged entrepreneurship and created a platform for his followers to promote their business.
The star posted a video of himself calling on people to punt their services, no matter how big or small, and said he would promote them to his 700k-plus followers.

The response was huge, with thousands of tweets posted under the hashtag #DJSbu in the hours that followed.
Services ranged from cleaning to selling laptops, Herbalife and babysitting. Even aspiring rappers and musicians used the platform to showcase their talent.
Sbu carried on the trend on Monday, reposting dozens of adverts he had received.
Euphonik said there was light at the end of the tunnel if the “smart ones” get together and do their own thing.
“You can’t retrench yourself though. Bleek but not all gloom and doom. What’s exciting is the smart ones from all these companies that will regroup and build businesses better than where they used to work,” he said.
The DJ and entrepreneur said it may be a chance for people to remember that with the right spirit they can overcome anything.

A range of emotions flooded Euphonik’s comment section.
Some saw the retrenchments as the much-needed push towards entrepreneurship or career change they’ve been hesitant to make.
Others felt hopeless and didn’t share the DJ’s optimism.

started applying for new job.got a WAAAAAY better job in April that is inline with what i studied.
